Inclusion physical education through sport and games

People can forge friendships through sport, develop social skills, gain independence and take on leadership roles. There is an overwhelming amount of evidence to support participation in sport. However, disability sport faces a tricky paradox - participation can help fight prejudices and empower participants; but it is precisely those prejudices that can prevent participation.

Breaking barriers People face a number of societal and practical barriers that may prevent participation. Depending on the situation, there may be a shortage of physical education and sport for all programmes, limited funding and few sport facilities.

Talented athletes from some regions often move to countries with better opportunities and access to equipment, limiting their ability to affect attitudes at home. In some cases, discrimination is systemic and open. In addition, if someone overcomes such barriers, a positive experience is not guaranteed. Eitzen, D. Sociology of North American sport 7th ed.
